Cracker Barrel Assistant Buyer in Lebanon, Tennessee

Overview

Cracker Barrel seeks to hire an Assistant Buyer! This individual will be responsible for assisting with merchandise assortment planning by analyzing sales trends and recommends new product attributes, sizes, or colors. Conducts research to identify potential vendors, reviews product specifications, and ensures product quality. Collaborates with the Distribution Center, Retail Operations, and vendors regarding product changes, problems, or shipping issues. Tracks and monitors order, status, and location of all new merchandise.

Responsibilities

Assists with merchandise assortment planning

Under the direction of the buyer, locates, develops, negotiates, and recommends new products for approval by Buyers.Stays current on consumer and emerging market trends by attending trade shows and reviewing information sources to incorporate into product selection/purchase decisions. Responsible for choosing new item attributes such as sizes, colors, etc. Analyzes item sales and is knowledgeable of sales trends for all current assortments. Makes recommendations regarding keeping or discontinuing a product based on trend analyses. Conducts market price research for assigned categories and identifies margin potential. Learning and gaining a working knowledge of retail metrics in order to grow into a level of independent fiscal responsibility for an area of merchandise in a buying capacity. Assists with special projects as directed.

Vendor follow-up and communication

Conducts research to identify potential vendors for assigned categories. Conducts follow-ups with vendor including reviewing purchase orders and product specifications. Places initial order and negotiates with vendor on initial product cost. Reviews product samples and cold calls for Buyers. Reviews product for quality and Cracker Barrel standards.

Merchandise shipping and receiving

Communicates with the Distribution Center and individual stores on shipping and receiving issues such as product changes, problems, status of shipments, etc. Partners with the DC, stores, and Merchandising leadership to develop more efficient and effective packaging attributes. Verifies details regarding packaging and shipping with vendors, and communicates and negotiates packing changes as needed. Tracks and monitors order, status, and location of all new merchandise.

Qualifications

  • Associates Degree and 2-3 years retail management experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Knowledge of retail and merchandise industry.

  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.

  • Strong teamwork/collaborative skills.

  • Strong organizational/prioritizing skills.

  • Proficient computer skills.
